The Methow Valley Fly Fishers was started in 1998 by a group of local Methow Valley anglers who wanted to share their love of the sport of fly fishing. The club focuses on three main goals - enjoyment, education, and conservation. The Methow River and surrounding lakes and mountains are our home waters. Our members love the beautiful landscape, abundant fish and wildlife, and inclusive camaraderie. We welcome you to join us.

Methow Valley Fly Fishers is dedicated to promoting conservation, education, and community engagement through fly fishing. Our mission is to foster a love for the outdoors, teach responsible angling practices, provide fellowship for individuals of all ages and genders who wish to develop as fly fishers, and support youth programs that connect children to nature. By providing hands-on experiences, we help build environmental stewardship and lifelong recreational skills.

First and foremost, the Methow Valley Fly Fishers are about fishing and having fun. We have regular monthly meetings where we get together to socialize and learn about all things fly fishing - everything from travel destinations to specialized techniques to conservation. We also have several member outings every year where we join up to fish and build camaraderie. In addition, many of the members can be found fishing the river and local lakes together.

The Methow Valley Fly Fishers emphasizes education, both formally and informally. We award a scholarship to a local high school student every year and award a paid internship to help college students pursue fisheries related degrees in the Valley. We also work with WDFW to enhance signage at boat ramps to help reinforce special regulations rules in the valley. We participate in Kid's fishing day every year and have an annual casting clinic with a certified casting instructor. In addition, we have informal fly-tying round tables, fly swaps, and monthly meetings with varied informative topics.

The Methow Valley Fly Fishers regularly volunteer for and fund conservation projects that enhance the quality of the fisheries in the Methow Valley. One of the biggest developments was the installation of aerators in both Big Twin and Little Twin lakes that have significantly reduced the possibility of winter kill in both of those waters. In addition, we have been involved in improving boat ramps at several area lakes and are currently working on a popular launch on the Methow River. Further afield, we were recently involved in helping uncover a vandalized water diversion dam at Lake Chopaka. Since this discovery, WDFW was petitioned to make repairs to the dam, and flows to the lake have been restored.

Socializing is an important part of the club's agenda. Beside the monthly meetings, we try to have several outings every year where members get together and fish. The outings give less experienced members a chance to learn from the veterans and give everyone a chance to meet new fishing buddies. In addition, we have our annual auction in the Spring, a Fall BBQ, the International Fly Fishing Film Festival in February, and several "pop-up" gatherings that would include fly swaps, fly tying round tables, and impromptu meet ups on a local lake.

Joining the club is easy. Membership is $50/year for a family membership. So that includes individuals, couples, or families with children. There are no restrictions, and no pre-qualification requirements. All are welcome.
